GIMEMA-ALLIANCE is the first digital healthcare system in Italy dedicated to hematology patients and their doctors

Background
The GIMEMA-ALLIANCE (ALLIANCE: “An onLine-pLatform to improve patient-centered care during the COVID-19 pAndemic: a GIMEMA surveillaNce program in hematologiC malignanciEs”) platform was designed for the onco-hematologic setting and includes secure portals for both patients and physicians. It enables electronic Patient-Reported Outcome (ePRO) assessments, allowing physicians to view real-time, easy-to-read graphical summaries of individual patient symptoms and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) profile.

Results
Nearly 600 patients with hematologic malignancies, followed by more than 80 physicians across
several Italian hospitals, were registered on the platform. A survey assessing physicians’
perceptions of its usability and clinical utility showed strong adoption from their perspective. Most physicians agreed that the platform supports shared decision-making and improves the detection of symptomatic adverse events. In addition, patients—both younger and older—reported high levels of usability and utility of the platform.
