PROACTIVE

An international project leveraging large-scale quality of life datasets to better inform clinical decision-making in myeloid  malignancies

Background

Historically, there has been paucity of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) research for patients with myeloid malignancies. This, in addition to notable advances made in the treatment of this category of patients, makes HRQoL a critical aspect to consider in making more informed clinical decisions and to better assess the benefit of new therapies.
To tackle this issue, in collaboration with international institutions, we gathered clinical, laboratory, survival, and HRQoL data of newly diagnosed patients with AML, APL and MDS, creating an impressive collection of data: PROACTIVE, Patient-Reported Outcomes Research in ACute Myeloid Leukemia and Myelodysplastic Syndromes: Towards a PatIent-Centered and ValuE Based Care Approach.

Objectives

The main objective of this study is assessing the prevalence of clinically important problems and symptoms in a large cohort of patients, but another strength of the study, intrinsic in its nature is its versatility.
Having at our disposal such a large dataset of high-quality data allows us to explore a variety of other objectives, such as:

  • Establishing international QoL benchmarks
  • Investigating the potential of AI and deep learning models
  • Evaluating the prognostic value of HRQoL factors
  • Integrating new criteria of fitness
